Dr. J.A. Garcia Elementary was conceived by the Corpus Christi Independent School District for the purpose of building a new, state of the art elementary school facility to replace two old schools and combine their student populations. This school has been designed based on a Gignac & Associates prototype design and incorporates a number of sustainable design features, including a wind turbine and solar hot water heater, and is on track to be certified LEED Silver by the US Green Building Council. The building contains typical elementary school spaces including a library with natural daylighting, standard and specialized classrooms, and a “cafetorium” which can be isolated for use by the community.
